They say good things take time and over the last six months, Melbourne producer Rino has been using it to great advantage. Of late, the spectacled craftsman has changed up his trajectory and aural mindset, bringing to life an immersive, one-of-a-kind live show. Since the release of his fervent debut EP Expanse, the Indonesian-born creator has also hunkered down in the studio, resulting in the emotionally charged Flow-on EP.

The release’s namesake sees beauty in the details. Rubbed-out chords protrude politely amongst harp play while angelic voices glide above inquisitive scales. Defined by saintly vocal chops, liquid bass and twinkling bell tones, Rino takes a leaf out of his idols’ books, bringing to life a sonic experience as energetic as it is meditative.

‘Slinky’ dives into an ethereal space, one that’s quickly becoming a Rino signature. Saintly vocals, growling sub-bass and breaky percussion are accompanied by keystrokes that sound like they’re straight out of a sci-fi film. Reminiscent of its predecessor, there’s a level of instrumental symbiosis on ‘Slinky’ that stands proud.

A testament to Rino’s artistic mastery, ‘Means’ sees a delectable kick straddle a stellar fractured rhythm, forming an unforgettable percussive blend. Playful flutters dance atop hopeful chords and rich, dynamic synths, with a reverb-drenched vocal completing a rosy stereo field. A rolling mid accompanies an intermittent sub presence, tying together a true scenic centrepiece.

‘Gloss’ gallops a tender broken line. A gentle breakbeat is met by an enticing modulated vocal, inviting us to follow back and forth across the spectral page. Alluring sonics are sprinkled around the wider spaces, allowing a signature Rino bass line to send home an impassioned message. Percussion grows to take control, joined at the omega by a blissfully matured version of the familiar sounds they met in the very beginning.
